JUST IN: Akwa Ibom Gov sacks commissioner over poor performance

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has sacked the Commissioner for Special Duties, Bassey Okon, over the ministry’s poor performance under his leadership.

Eno has also directed Okon to immediately handover all state government property including documents in his possession to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry.

The governor’s directive was made public on Monday through a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Enobong Uwah.

According to the statement, “In an ongoing effort to reposition this administration in line with the ARISE AGENDA, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, has relieved Dr. Bassey P. Okon, the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties as Commissioner in the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council with immediate effect.

“His Excellency, thanks him for his services to the State and wishes him the best in his future endeavours.

‘He is therefore, directed to handover to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry. In the meantime, the Ministry will be supervised by the Secretary to the State Government pending the appointment of a new Commissioner”.
