The Federal Government through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has suspended Max Air’s operations following an incident involving one of its aircraft in Kano on Tuesday night.
The suspension follows NCAA confirmation of its commitment to working with the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) to determine the cause of the occurrence.
The NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, emphasized that only a thorough NSIB investigation could establish the exact reasons behind the incident.
Achimugu also disclosed that the NCAA had been assessing risk levels for all scheduled airlines, including Max Air.
However, following this latest event, the airline under the order of NCAA has decided to halt domestic flights for three months starting at midnight on January 31, 2025, to conduct an internal operational review.
During the suspension period, the NCAA will perform a comprehensive audit of Max Air’s safety measures and financial health.
The safety evaluation will focus on the airline’s personnel, procedures, and aircraft compliance with regulatory standards, while the economic review will assess the airline’s financial stability to ensure it can sustain safe operations.
Max Air will only be allowed to resume domestic flights once these audits are satisfactorily completed.
