Mohamed Salah has become the highest scoring African player in the UEFA Champions League courtesy of his goal for Liverpool against Galatasaray.
Salah scored in Liverpool’s 4-0 win over the Turkish side and 4-1 aggregate, to record his 50th goal in the competition, more than any other player from the continent.
Following goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Etikite and Ryan Gravenberch during the match at Anfield yesterday, the Egyptian, who earlier missed a penalty, scored a trademark curling effort from his left foot to cause a boisterous celebration by the home fans at Anfield on Wednesday, helping his side reach the next stage to face cup holders, PSG.
His manager, Arne Slot, said, “It says a lot about Mo’s mentality that he missed a penalty just before half-time but came out second half and performed like that.
“The goal he scored was a trademark of his. Credit to him and the whole team.”
