NDLEA nabs Lagos couple after recovering N2.1bn drugs during raid

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has raided the Lagos base of a high-profile cocaine syndicate headed by a couple, John Agbakoba, and Ijeoma Agbakoba as well as their associate, Ifeoma Okoye, after being found in possession of drugs in Lagos State.

They were apprehended by the agency during a raid on their apartment which led to the recovery of large consignments of the class A drugs meant for export and local distribution.

The raid carried out by a special operations unit of the Agency followed months of intelligence gathering and surveillance on the syndicate notorious for packaging, distributing, and trafficking cocaine within and outside Nigeria.

While the 54-year-old Agbakoba was arrested along Ago Palace way in Okota axis, the 39-year-old wife, Ijeoma, and 31-year-old associate, Okoye, who doubles as their stash keeper, were nabbed at Plot 2205 Eugene Ndubisi close, Lilly Estate, Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos.

It was learnt that the arrest of the husband aided the anti-drug agency to apprehend the wife and associate hours after.

Arrest of the three drug peddlers were disclosed on Sunday through a statement released by the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, and made available to The Guild.

According to him, “While seven parcels of cocaine with a total weight of 7.652 kilograms were recovered from Mmadu at Ago palace way, not less than one hundred and twenty-two (122) compressed pellets of the same drug weighing 2.42kg were seized from the duo of Ijeoma and Ifeoma at Lilly Estate, bringing the total seizure to 10.1 kilograms valued at over N2.1 billion in street value”.
