Lagos Govt. seals 840 event centers, others for safety contraventions

...registers over 6,000 events

The Lagos State Government through its Safety Commission, has sealed over 840 event centres and social facilities for safety violations and non-compliance with extant laws in the last one year across the state.

It said that the move to seal the event centres and other facilities by the commission was to protect Lagosians from sustaining injuries and the state from recording deaths.

The Commissioner, Gbenga Oyerinde, disclosed this on Monday while reeling out achievements of the ministry especially the commission led by the General Manager, Lanre Mojola, within the last one year.

Oyerinde noted that they agency carried out enforcement action at 840 facilities including event centres, clubs, lounges and hotels, construction sites for safety infractions in the interest of public safety.

According to him, about 7,819 facilities were inspected to ensure safety, with some 5,220 issued with fire safety compliance certificates.

The Commissioner stressed that the safety agency carried out not less than 365 advocacy initiatives to inculcate safety ensure total adherence.

The Commissioner, meanwhile, noted that 6,348 events were registered by planners with approvals granted after strict compliance with safety standards in the state.

He promised Lagosians that the safety agency under the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration would continuously strive towards enforcing strict compliance with safety standards within Lagos.
