JUST IN: Three die during gas explosion in Lagos

No fewer than three persons have been reported dead and one other sustained varying degrees of burns during a gas explosion in Lagos State.

As gathered, the explosion that left the three Lagosians dead was said to have occurred in Abule Pan community in Ibeju-Lekki Local Governments.

It was learnt that the explosion on Tuesday was involving a 50 Kilograms industrial gas cylinder assembled outside a shop in the community along Lekki-Epe expressway.

During the explosion that rocked Abule Pan at about 15:34pm, there was said to be pandemonium in the community, forcing many residents to flee their homes to avoid sustaining injuries.

Eyewitnesses narrated that the deafening loud bang heard from the gas shop caused panic and many started scampering for safety.

The Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), Margaret Adeseye, who confirmed the development, told newsmen that the firemen responded to the scene immediately after receiving the distressed call.

Adeseye noted that they raced to the scene, preventing any possible spread of the explosion impact.

She noted that preliminary investigation revealed that the explosion occurred due to mishandling of the gas cylinder that exploded.

The fire service boss disclosed that the firemen efforts were complemented by Health Environment officials, Military Officials, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials, Ibeju Lekki Local Government staff.
