Super Eagles threatens to boycott Algeria match over unpaid bonuses

By Felix Kuyinu

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have threatened to boycott training ahead of the fast approaching quarter-final match against Algeria over unpaid bonuses.

The players, alongside officials of the team, complained of owed bonuses from the ongoing African Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025, disclosing that the team will shun the trip for Marrakech venue billed for the knock-out game.

They disclosed that the bonuses were from matches against Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda in the group stages as well as the second round win over Mozambique.

The development, on Wednesday, has raised concerns about a disruption to the team’s preparations if the situation remains unsolved.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to face the Desert Warriors on Saturday January 10 at the Stade de Marrakech, five hours away from the Fez stadium where they have had all their played games in the competition.

The two sides have faced each other seven times, twice at the AFCON where they recorded one win each, the most recent, a 2-1 win for the North Africans in the Semi-Finals of the 2019 edition.

In the other encounters, three have come in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria winning two of those and one of them finishing even.

The two other matches were friendly games which ended with one win for both sides.
