The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appointed former commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Sam Egube, as the new Deputy Chief of Staff.
Egube was appointed by the governor after the seat became vacant following the demise of his former Deputy Chief of Staff, Gboyega Soyannwo.
Sanwo-Olu announced the former commissioner’s appointment barely a week after Soyannwo was laid to rest amid eulogies in the state.
The governor announced Egube’s appointment on Wednesday during the commissioning of 15 high capacity ferries designed to increased ridership on waterways across the state.
He said: “This is my first official assignment after the demise of our Deputy Chief of Staff, Gboyega Soyannwo. We appreciate his contributions to the development of Lagos. And considering the status of the state and the task ahead, we will need to fill the vacuum left by his demise. So I have appointed someone that understands the administration agenda and he is a former commissioner in Lagos, Mr. Sam Egube. He will be sworn in tomorrow as the new Deputy CoS”.
With the appointment, Egube will be returning to serve under the administration after he was denied the opportunity to join the Sanwo-Olu cabinet by the Lagos State House of Assembly.
His nomination was rejected twice by the lawmakers who were said to have been infuriated by Egube and others that whose nomination were turned down over their inability to mobilize Lagosians to cast their vote for Sanwo-Olu during the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.
All appeals made by the Governor to the lawmakers led by the Speaker, Mudasiru Obasa, fell on deaf hears, resulting in their replacement by other appointees who were picked as compensation for their contributions to the last election.
