JUST IN: Lagos council chairman dies after protracted ailments

By MONSURUDEEN OLOWOOPEJO

The Chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Bola Shobowale, has been reported dead after losing battle against a protracted ailment in Lagos State.

Shobowale’s death marked the end of a challenging period for the council after she handed over reign of the LCDA partially to the Council manager, neglecting the Vice Chairman, Oladipupo Oluwaloni, who was constitutionally expected to act in the deceased chairman’s absence.

Her decision, as gathered, halted progress in the council as she was expected to have taken crucial decision
on challenges affecting the LCDA but her absence prevented the move.

To address the leadership vacuum, the governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, barely three days before the chairman’s death was announced, appointed the Vice Chairman, Oladipupo Oluwaloni, as the Acting Chairman, to end the leadership vacuum that had crippled administration of the council activities.

She was said to have died on Friday after all efforts by medical experts in the country to save her proved abortive.

Confirming the development, the Chief Press Secretary, Rasaq Jimoh, described the development as shocking considering the deceased’s plans for the development of the LCDA.

In a statement made available to newsmen, Jimoh urged his boss political supporters to accept the development as God’s decision on the former chairman.

According to the statement, “I regret to announce the passing of my principal, Hon. Chief (Mrs) Bola Shobowale JP. The Executive Chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, may almighty God in mercy forgives her short comings, grants her eternal rest. Amen”.
