JUST IN: FG extends Eid public holiday to Thursday

Following the Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar, declaration that Wednesday is Eid-il-Fitri, the Federal Government has extended the public holiday for the Eid celebration to Thursday.

It said that the additional day is to allow the Muslims relax and regain their energy after the fasting before resuming to work.

With the extension, the public holiday would now run for three days, beginning from Tuesday, April 9th to 11th.

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, disclosed this through a statement released on Tuesday and made available to newsmen by Permanent Secretary for the ministry, Dr Aishetu Ndayako.

According to the statement, “The Federal Government has approved Thursday 11th April, 2024 as an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid -El-Fitr.

“The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, while congratulating the muslim Ummah for a successful completion of a month of spiritual rejuvenation, reiterates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (GCFR) firm commitment to providing a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all to thrive”.

This came hours after the government had declared a two-day – Tuesday and Wednesday – holiday for the festivities.

However, the crescent was not sighted in the country and across the world, meaning the Eid celebration will take place on Wednesday, prompting the Federal Government to add an extra day to the already-declared public holiday.
