Floods sweeps away 17 residents in Oman

By News Desk

At least 17 people have died during flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall recorded across Oman.

To prevent further death, the government has ordered that workers in the public and private sectors across five areas stay away from work pending when the weather will improve.

The towns involved include Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, and Al Dakhiliyah,

This was disclosed by the country’s National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM) yesterday.

It noted that the government has allowed employees to work remotely, to prevent workers wading through the water to their offices.

Authorities in Oman are conducting “rescue operations” after announcing all schools in six governorates including Muscat, would be closed Monday due to unstable weather conditions.

Moderate heavy rainfall is expected across north-eastern and northern Oman over the next few days.
