The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has cleared the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, from sexual harassment allegations levelled against him by a female staff of the institution.
FUOYE cleared the varsity’s Vice Chancellor following a thorough investigation into the matter which has attracted a widespread attention within the institution and outside the school.
The governing council’s decision was announced on Wednesday after receiving a report from an independent committee that investigated the allegations against the Varsity Don.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the Governing Council, the panel set up to investigate the matter found no evidence to support the claims made against Prof. Fasina. The statement noted that testimonies from witnesses, examination of documents, and a review of all available evidence revealed inconsistencies and a lack of substance in the allegations.
“The Council wishes to state unequivocally that after a meticulous and impartial investigation, Professor Abayomi Fasina has been cleared of all allegations of sexual misconduct. The decision was reached unanimously,” the statement read.
The Council also reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of Professor Fasina, commending his commitment to academic excellence and administrative discipline.
It urged members of the university community to focus on their primary responsibilities and avoid being distracted by unfounded controversies.
In his reaction, Fasina expressed gratitude to the Governing Council for its fairness and professionalism throughout the investigation.
He described the outcome as a victory for truth and justice, while also reiterating his resolve to continue steering FUOYE towards greater achievements.
The Vice Chancellor appealed for calm within the university, stressing the need for unity, peace, and collective dedication to the institution’s growth.
He also cautioned against the spread of misinformation that could tarnish reputations and destabilize the academic environment.
This development brings to a close what many had described as a damaging distraction, and the university community is expected to refocus on academic and developmental strides under the leadership of Prof. Fasina.
