EFCC confirms Abuja school refund $760,000 received from Yahaya Bello

By News Desk

Yhe Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed receipt of the $760,000 paid in advance by Kogi State former governor, Yahaya Bello, for his children as tuition fees.

It said that the school has refund the money after investigation showed that the former governor handed over the fund to them for his children fees.

The spokesperson, EFCC, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the development to newsmen on Saturday.

Earlier, the Head of the school, Greg Hughes, in a statement on Saturday said, “Contrary to some media reports suggesting that the institution was still in the process of turning over the funds, the school clarified that it had actually done so, as recently confirmed by the EFCC Chairman.”

“Our compliance to remit these funds underscores our commitment to upholding institutional integrity and our respect for the national institutions of Nigeria

“Upon learning that the school fees we accepted in good faith were, in fact, part of an ongoing case with the EFCC, we turned over these funds in compliance with this federal commission’s request,” Hughes explained.

On the current matter between Bello and the EFCC, the school further said that “we will refrain from making any further comments at this time.”
