The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit Zone A, Ikeja, has handed over four suspected drug traffickers to the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for prosecution in accordance with the law.
Aside from that, the law enforcement of agency handed to the anti-narcotic agency cannabis sativa worth over N519 million, after they were seized from the dealers across the country.
The Customs Area Controller in charge of the command, Kola Oladeji, handed over the impounded items and the suspects on Monday to the NDLEA for prosecution.
However, he withheld names of the suspects under detention to avoid jeopardizing ongoing investigations, now handled by its sister agency.
According to the controller, the impounded items were seized from various locations across the country, including Igbeda Water Side in Ojo, Lagos State; Topa Igangan Axis in Oyo State; and Ayetoro Axis in Ogun State.
“Some of these items were intercepted along expressways, others while en route to the east or north, and some within Lagos,” he explained.
Speaking on the joint achievement, Oladeji emphasized the importance of interagency cooperation in combating illicit drug supply chains.
“Trading and distributing cannabis sativa and other illicit drugs poses significant dangers to our communities. These substances harm users’ well-being and contribute to social problems like crime and violence,” he added.
Similarly, the Deputy Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Adekunle Makinde, noted that circulating hard drugs nationwide can devastate public health and the economy.
Furthermore, the agencies cautioned youths and traders involved in illicit drug distribution to beware, as they risk their lives and public safety.
“I urge youths and traders to recognize the risks and join us in combating drug trafficking for a safer, healthier society,”
“We must work together to eliminate illicit substances and create a drug-free environment for ourselves and future generations,” Oladeji appealed.
