The Nigerian Army troops attached to Operation Hadin Kai have killed a top commander of the Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād, otherwise known as Boko Haram, Tahir Baga, during a fierce battle inside the popular Sambisa forest.
It was gathered that the clashes started after the troops attacked the terrorists inside the forest in continuation of their major offensive operations against Boko Haram.
On Tuesday, it was learnt that Tahir was neutralized by the troops yesterday when they unleashed the major operation codenamed: Operation Desert Sanity III.
After killing the terrorists’ commander, the troops mowed down Boko Haram enclaves in Shababul Umma, Garin Panel Beater and Lagara Anguwan Gwaigwai, locations that were at the heart of the dreadful forest.
An intelligence sources, Zagazola Makama, narrated that during the offensive operation, contact was made with the terrorists which led to the killing of the terrorists as well as some of his lieutenant while several others escaped with gunshots wounds.
Baga, was a close Ally to Abubakar Shekau, and a founding member of the terrorist group in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
Months after the group operations spread, the deceased terrorist moved into Sambisa Forest with his colleagues, Mamman Nur, Khalid Albarnawi, Abubakar Shekau, Kaka Ali, Mustapha Chad, Abu Maryam and Abu Krimima.
He was a revered Imam who was respected among the Sect group and had on several basis truncated efforts of many fighters as well as their families to surrender.
Aside from that, Baga also pushed many under aged girls to go on suicide bombing after convincing that they will be granted paradise as everlasting reward.
The killing of Tahir Baga, is a major blow to the Boko Haram terrorists groups operations across the northern region of the country.
