The Anambra police command has arrested two men for allegedly killing an 80-year old woman, Theresa Igbojonu, and stealing her motorcycle in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects apprehended by the police after the deceased octogenarian’s body were recovered from her home were Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi.
As gathered, the two suspects under detention were alleged to have perpetrated the act with two others who the police have commenced a manhunt for.
Residents narrated that the suspects alongside two others tied both hands of the octogenarian before they allegedly killed her.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, who confirmed their arrest on Tuesday, explained that Igboanugo was arrested on Saturday following a report by the son of the deceased.
Orutugu, in a statement by the command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, added that the son of the deceased claimed to have seen the two young men riding the stolen motorcycle in the community.
He noted that the son identified Ibeabuchi as one of the gang member that allegedly murdered his mother, a revelation that resulted in his arrest.
The police boss, while disclosing that the case transferred to the state’s Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, promised that the duo would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
