The residents of Sara, Gwaram Local Government Area, Jigawa, have been left in grief after a father was allegedly killed by his 20-year-old son during a violent property dispute.
The suspect, identified as Muhammad Salisu, reportedly assaulted and macheted his 52-year-old father, Salisu Abubakar, to death at their residence in Bakin Kasuwa Quarters.
As gathered, Abubakar, who had sustained varying degrees of injuries after being brutalized by his son, gave up the ghost at Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudi.
According to source, medical personnel in the facility was unable to revive him following the fatal injuries he sustained during the confrontation with Salisu leading to his tragic death.
An eyewitness close to the family and familiar with the incident told The Guild that the son and the father have been quarrelling about a piece of land belonging to the father.
The eyewitness said, “Salisu has been fighting his father for some weeks now because the father refused to give him a piece of land. Salisu said he wanted to farm with the land, however, the father doubted him, saying that Salisu only wanted to sell the land and squander the money”
He continued, ” I am sure it is the dispute over the land that escalated last night, causing Salisu and his father to engage in a fight. Unfortunately, Salisu overpowered his father and macheted him to death”.
Confirming this incident on Tuesday, Jigawa Police spokesperson, Lawan Shiisu, in a statement disclosed that the young man inflicted severe injuries on his father’s neck, chest, and shoulder using a machete.
“Following the report, officers from the Sara Police Division responded promptly, and the suspect was arrested at the scene. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for a more detailed probe,” Shiisu said.
The police spokesperson added that Salisu will be prosecuted once the investigation into his father’s death is concluded.
