Zamfara police recovers 2,500 litres of poisonous chemicals

The Zamfara State Police Command has recorded a significant operational success by intercepting 2,500 litres of hazardous and poisonous chemicals capable of endangering the lives and property of innocent citizens during a routine patrol in Gusau Local Government Area.

The items were recovered by operatives attached to the Command’s Anti‑Illegal Mining Unit while on patrol in the Lalan area of Gusau.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Yazid Abubakar, the chemicals were contained in one hundred jerrycans, each holding twenty‑five (25) litres.

The hazardous substances, he noted, are believed to pose serious risks to public health and the environment.

Abubakar added that investigations have commenced to determine the source, ownership, and intended use of the recovered chemicals, with a view to identifying and prosecuting those responsible in accordance with the law.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station, emphasizing that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority.

“The doors of the Command remain open at all hours for any credible and timely information, upon which we will promptly act to safeguard the lives and property of citizens, as guaranteed by the Constitution,” the statement further assured.
