The Yobe state government has confiscated and destroyed 51 cartons of alcoholic beverages and 18 jerrycans of methylene chloride, a locally abused substance known as Madarar Sukurdai, during recent operations across the state.
The seizure and destruction of the alcoholic beverages was conducted by the Hisbah commission under the approval of the State government.
According to the commission, this exercise carried out by its operatives, aligns with the state’s law and Islamic principles, which prohibits the sales and consumptions of alcohol and intoxicant substances.
The Chairman of the Hisbah Commission, Yahuza Abubakar, revealed the success of the operation during a press briefing in the state on Thursday.
During the press briefing, he stated that both Islamic teachings and the commission’s founding law strictly prohibit the sale and consumption of liquor and other intoxicants within the state.
Abubakar also disclosed that the Commission successfully mediated and settled 565 disputes over the past year within Yobe communities.
These cases, he said, ranged from family and inheritance matters to business disagreements, debt recovery, and communal issues, including farmers-herders clashes and unpaid rents.
He noted that most disputes were resolved peacefully through dialogue and mutual agreement between the parties involved.
The Hisbah Commission was established in March 2024 by Governor Mala Buni as part of a broader initiative to curb social misconduct and promote moral values across Yobe State.
