The Chairman of the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Mamman Mohammed, has been pronounced dead by medical experts following a brief illness.
Mohammed was reported to have passed away at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu, where he had been admitted with an undisclosed illness, leaving a significant void in Yobe’s electoral administration.
His passing has been described by many as a painful loss to Yobe’s democratic and administrative institutions, given his long-standing reputation for integrity and dedication to public service.
Confirming the development, the Fika Emirate Council, in a statement on Tuesday, described him as “a committed public servant and respected community leader whose contributions will be greatly missed.”
“Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. The death has occurred of Dr. Mamman Mohammed (Shamakin Fika), Chairman of the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC). He died after a brief illness. May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah. Amin,” the Council said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
His funeral prayer is scheduled to be held today, Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Emir of Fika’s Palace in Potiskum town.
