Wike invites Odili, Amaechi to debate gubernatorial achievements

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, has challenged his predecessors, including Peter Odili and Rotimi Amaechi to a public debate for their achievements while in office, noting that none of their accomplishments surpass the milestones his administration has recorded in the state.

Wike also dared the past governors, including those who later served as ministers under President Buhari, to detail what they accomplished for the people of Rivers State during their tenures rather than rely on excuses.

Speaking at Ahoada main Town, during the Renewed Hope Family’s ‘Thank you visit’ to Ahoada East Local Government Area, the former governor described his administration’s impact as unprecedented in the state’s history, emphasizing that governance goes beyond awarding contracts.

“I challenge those who were governors in this state under Obasanjo, under Jonathan, and later became ministers under Buhari to come forward and outline what they achieved during those periods, and compare it with what we have achieved now as a government,” he said.

“It is unprecedented in the history of this country, we did it under Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. For me, what’s important is the account of what impact you made for your people while in office. So for me What’s important is the to account of when you are in so so place what impact did you make for your people,” the FCT minister added.

He recalled the challenges his administration faced from previous governments and ministers, noting that despite obstacles, his government has made significant progress in improving the lives of Rivers residents.

“People are forgotten when I was governor. The government then, under our late president, it was hell for me. The minister then made sure we don’t move forward. But by the grace of God we made more impact, so let people not use excuses. I had a good relationship with the legislature.

“Governance is not about awarding contracts, it’s about the ability of how you can relate with people. Anybody here can award a contract, but the capacity for you to settle issues, to meander around problems, that is the key.
