Worried by the fast spread of coronavirus in Nigeria through community transmission, the Federal Government has warned that anyone found moving about without a face mask to prevent itself from contracting COVID-19 would be prosecuted.
The Apex Government also said that anyone found in the country during test to prevent community transmission with a temperature above 38ºC would be mandated to return home.
This was disclosed in a five-page document on Friday containing the guidelines for the implementation of the phased and gradual easing of the lockdown that was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who also doubles as the Presidential Taskforce Chairman (PTF) Chairman.
Mustapha said: “Anyone who presents a temperature of above 38ºC will be mandated to return home and call NCDC for evaluation” possibly to isolation center.
“Anyone without a face mask/covering will be asked to return home and will be prosecuted.
“Anyone violating the curfew in a non-emergency situation will be prosecuted. Anyone attending a gathering of more than 20 people will be prosecuted and any member of the public who violates the ban on Inter-State movement as outlined in this guideline will be prosecuted,” the SGF added.
The document came days after President Muhammadu Buhari relaxed the lockdown in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Lagos and Ogun States, as part of measures to curb the spread of the disease.
The PTF has, however, urged Nigerians who do not have any important reason to be out, to stay indoors as the fight against the COVID-19 is yet to be over.
