UNIJOS issues evacuation notice to students amid rising tension

The University of Jos has ordered the immediate evacuation of students from its hostels following heightened security concerns in areas surrounding the campus.

The directive comes in the wake of incidents that threatened the safety of students residing on campus.

In a statement issued by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, confirmed that the evacuation would be carried out with the support of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, who has provided transport services authorized to operate even during curfew hours.

The evacuation begins on Wednesday at 3 PM for students residing within Jos and its environs, who will be moved from the university hostels to safer locations within the city.

Students whose parents or guardians live outside Jos will be evacuated on Thursday from 8 AM, conveyed from the campus to Jos South for onward travel to their destinations. Adequate security personnel have been deployed to protect the university and hostels throughout the process.

The university assured its community that management is taking all necessary measures to ensure safety on campus and urged students and staff to remain calm.

“Further relevant updates will be communicated as management directs. In fragile times like these, may our confidence in the LORD be steadfast,” the statement concluded.
