UK will not join Iran war – Starmer

By Helen Okoli.

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has firmly ruled out sending UK troops into Iran, emphasizing that Britain will not be drawn into the escalating conflict between the United States and Tehran.

Facing questions from both allies and critics, Starmer maintained a clear stance against direct military involvement, aiming to reassure the public about Britain’s limited role in the region.

Speaking on Monday in London, he stated, “This is not our war and we’re not going to get drawn into it.” He added that the UK will continue to take defensive measures and work to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime route for global trade.

The remarks come amid growing concerns that the United States may be preparing for ground operations in Iran after weeks of intense aerial and naval confrontations.

Starmer’s position has sparked debate in British politics, with some urging stronger support for the U.S., while others welcome the decision to avoid deeper entanglement in Middle East hostilities.

The government reiterated that Britain will prioritize protecting its national interests and support international efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.
