UK freezes Iran minister’s asset over brutalization of protesters

The United Kingdom government has sanctioned Iran Interior Minister, Eskandar Momemi, over offences relating to inhumane behavior against protesters.

The government slammed the sanction on Momemi alongside 10 others which include clerics of the Law Enforcement Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, FARAJA, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, IRGC, police chiefs and two judges, for their roles in brutalization of the agitators which has caused unrest in Iran.

The authorities stated that the penalty involves freezing of assets and also travel bans after the incident which lasted for days and led to at least 3,117 dead.

The UK Foreign Minister, Yvette Cooper, said that the occurrence sparked economic strain and exploded in magnitude where riots got inflamed by arch foes in the United States and Israel.

”The Iranian people have shown extreme courage in the face of brutality and repression over recent weeks simply for exercising their right to peaceful protest,” Cooper said on Monday.

”The reports and shocking scenes of violence that have been seen around the world are horrific,” Cooper uttered, and added, ”This package of sanctions seeks to hold Iran authorities to account for the crackdown.

The UK government informed that further investigations are ongoing in the matter.
