U.S. delivers military supplies to support Nigeria security operations

The United States has delivered critical military supplies to Nigeria to support the country’s ongoing efforts to combat banditry, insurgency, and other security challenges.

This development follows missile strikes on Christmas Day by the U.S. Army targeting the Islamic State, which President Donald Trump described as potentially the beginning of broader interventions if necessary.

President Bola Tinubu had established a U.S.–Nigeria working group to strengthen cooperation in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, particularly in response to the recent rise in terror attacks in the northern region.

The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed the delivery of the military supplies through a statement posted on its social media account on Tuesday, describing it as part of sustained security cooperation between Washington and Abuja.

According to the command, the supplies are part of a broader effort to support Nigeria’s fight against organized armed groups and violent extremism.

“This delivery reflects our continued partnership with Nigeria to improve security capabilities and promote regional stability,” AFRICOM said.

The Guild reports that this support from the U.S. comes as Nigeria continues to battle insurgency in the North-East, banditry in the North-West and North-Central regions, as well as other violent crimes nationwide.
