Two engineers die after falling inside diesel tank in Lagos

Two engineers have been confirmed dead by medical experts after the fell inside a diesel reservoir tank in a private apartment in Ikosi Oregon, Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, Lagos State.

The two yet-to-be-identified engineers were said to be assisting each other when they both fell inside the tank filled with diesel and all efforts by the medical experts and emergency officials to ensure that the engineers survive the accident.

Our correspondent learnt that the second was trying to rescue the first engineer when he also fell into the tank, a development that prompted other engineers to raise the alarm and alerted the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) at about 11pm on Saturday.

They were rescued and were promptly transported to the hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) after receiving first aid, including CPR.

Confirming the tragedy, the Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said that they were rushed to the hospital but all efforts to keep them alive proved abortive.

Oke-Osanyintolu said: “After they were rescued, by the emergency team including Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LASF&RS), the victims were given first aid and they adult males were evacuated and transported to the hospital for further medical attention.
“It was at the hospital both men were pronounced dead by medical experts”.
