Truck crushes Okadaman, passenger in Abia

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abia State has confirmed two separate fatal road crashes that occurred within hours of each other, claiming the lives of a tricycle operator and his female passenger in Umuahia, and a motorcycle rider in Aba.

The first accident happened at the notorious “Sign Board” junction near Ubani Market in Umuahia, the state capital.

Confirming the incidents on Wednesday, Sector Commander Ngozi Ezeoma described the crashes, which occurred on Tuesday evening, as “tragic and sad.”

According to Ezeoma, the Umuahia crash occurred barely hours after another fatal accident at Opobo Road in Aba, where a motorcycle rider was knocked down by a tricycle and subsequently crushed by an oncoming truck.

She also revealed that three similar accidents had occurred at the same “Sign Board” junction in 2025, resulting in multiple fatalities, raising serious concerns about the safety of the location.

The Sector Commander urged motorists and road users to exercise caution, obey traffic rules, and avoid dangerous practices, especially at black spots such as the “Sign Board” junction.

FRSC operatives are currently investigating both crashes, while appeals have been made to the tricycle rider involved in the Aba incident to report to the nearest FRSC office or police station to assist with the investigation.
