A truck assistant has tragically lost his life in a fatal accident caused by a truck driver along the Benin-Sagamu Expressway near Gas Station Company, Ogbere Junction, Ogun State.
The accident involved a Mack Truck with number plate TTN 372 ZQ transporting granite from Ratcon Quarry Company, Ogbere, to Sagamu.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident in a press statement released by. She said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the Mack truck driver lost control and collided with an unidentified moving truck from the rear.
The impact of the crash left the truck assistant with severe injuries. He was rushed to the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode for treatment but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
“The injured victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, but sadly succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment,” Odutola stated.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary in Ijebu-Ode for an autopsy. Meanwhile, the driver of the unidentified truck fled the scene, leaving authorities to launch a manhunt.
“Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing truck driver,” the statement added.
The Mack truck involved in the accident has been towed to the police station for safekeeping and further assessment by the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO).
