A man accused of stealing a motorcycle has died from injuries sustained after being attacked by an angry mob at Wannune Market in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident reportedly occurred on January 25 at around 10:00 a.m., when the suspect, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was alleged to have stolen a motorcycle in the busy market.
According to reports, the suspect was overpowered by traders, who inflicted injuries all over his body and then took the motorcycle before police officers could intervene.
A source said the injured man was rushed to Wannune General Hospital by the police for urgent medical attention.
However, medical personnel later confirmed that he died while receiving treatment, and his body was deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
A police source added that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the traders involved, noting that the State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the case to ensure accountability.
