Ahead of Saturday’s Edo gubernatorial election, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has cautioned politicians and electorates against engaging in conducts that could truncate the exercise in the state.
Tinubu, who advocated for a peaceful election process, implored supporters and the major actors to respect the democratic process and the people’s will, by allowing electorates to exercise their voting powers.
According to him, the voters have the ability to make informed decisions on their choice of leaders for the state.
The president stated this on Friday while urging governorship candidates and party members to maintain peace and adopt the spirit of sportsmanship on the outcome of the poll.
Highlighting the significance of democracy, Tinubu emphasized that democracy can only flourish with civility, tolerance, patience, and unwavering respect for the rules of the game.
He also noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has consistently demonstrated its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections, encouraging them to remain steadfast in their competence, impartiality, and transparency in all their dealings.
Furthermore, Tinubu commended the governorship candidates and political parties for their campaigns, which have focused on issues that matter most to the people of Edo State, including improving livelihoods, promoting economic growth, and contributing to national development.
While addressing the citizens, he urged the people of Edo state to remain peaceful and respectful throughout the voting process also encouraging them to resolve any disagreements amicably through the constituted authorities.
Additionally, The president expressed his unwavering confidence in the professionalism and integrity of security agencies and INEC officials.
” INEC should remain impartial and avoid any actions that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process,” he said.
