A three-storey building under construction at No 1 Isalegangan street by Itafaji, Lagos Island Local Government, has collapsed in the state, causing panic among residents of the community.
The building under construction was said to have collapsed minutes at about 10:15am during the downpour experienced across the state.
The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident during an interview with newsmen in the state.
“The Agency responded to the scene of incident and observed that the structure collapsed on its own without external factor.
“Aside from that, the access street.was discovered to have been very narrow and will be difficult for heavy duty vehicular operations”.
According to him, the recommendation is that Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) carry out the manual demolition of the few pillars that are still standing.
“The manual site clearance will be coordinated by Lasema Lekki base so that the road could be free from the debris related to construction work before the collapse”.
