No fewer than officers of the Nigerian Police were reported to have been killed and two others injured during clashes with gunmen in Onitsha, Anambra State.
As gathered, the five law enforcement personnel were on patrol around the axis when the gunmen suddenly attacked them, and during the clashes, three officers died and two sustained gunshot wounds.
After the clash that started around 9 am on the Ukaegbu /Ezeiweka road in Onitsha, the gunmen set ablaze the policemen operational vehicle.
An eyewitness narrated that the gunmen may have been angered by the alleged extortion by the law enforcement personnel during their patrol.
The Nigerian Police, Anambra Command spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident and said that they were on the trail of the perpetrators.
