A 19-year-old boy, Mustapha Adamu, has been reported to have killed his co-worker during a heated argument that escalated into a deadly fight in a small farming village in Gombe State.
Adamu allegedly stabbed his 20-year-old friend, Yahuza Labaran, following a disagreement while they were farming.
The tragic incident, as gathered, occurred in Kulani Chessi, a village in Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State.
According to eyewitnesses, the two young men had gone to work on the farm when tensions flared between them around 3 p.m., leading to the tragedy.
The villagers explained that the disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Adamu reportedly pulled a knife and stabbed Labaran in the shoulder with the injury causing heavy bleeding.
Despite efforts by bystanders to save him, the 20-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival at Balanga General Hospital.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Gombe State Police Command stated that the suspect had been taken into custody.
The command disclosed that during interrogation, Adamu confessed to stabbing his co-worker to death but claimed it was not intentional.
“I didn’t mean to kill him,” Mustapha reportedly told investigators. “We were only arguing, and I lost my temper.”
The incident has thrown the small farming community into mourning, with many residents still in disbelief over the tragic turn of events.
Mallam Umaru, a respected elder in the village, lamented the growing trend of violence among youths.
“This is not the first time a small quarrel has led to death,” he said. “We need to teach our youth peaceful ways of resolving disputes. Violence can never be the answer.”
Meanwhile, police authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that the suspect will face prosecution once inquiries are concluded.
