Switzerland pledges support for WHO’s global coronavirus response

By NewsDesk,

The Swiss Government has pledged its support to the World Health Organization (WHO) over the global response to rising incidents of the deadly coronavirus infection across the world.

It said that the nation would present the organization with adequate support and cooperation needed in the discharge of its duties as the Covid-19 global response coordinator.

The Swiss President, Simonetta Sommaruga, who made the pledge while speaking during the World Health Assembly online meeting, stated that the WHO was an irreplaceable body in the world’s defenses against rising health crises and that the organization needed greater resources in order to adequately carry out its essential duties.

She said that the organization had been saddled with the responsibility of coordinating and providing coronavirus support to developing countries around the world and that it was, therefore, essential that nations gave adequate assistance for the facilitation of its activities.

Sommaruga stated that Switzerland would give its full support to the Director-General, WHO, Tedros Ghebreyesus, and urged the other 194 member nations to follow suit and stand with the organization in order to achieve control over the viral pandemic.

“Director-General as you go through this crisis be assured that you have Switzerland’s full support and cooperation”, she said.
