The Super Eagles has defeated Liberia National team 2-0 during their first round of World Cup qualifier that saw Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, scoring twice to secure the victory for Nigeria.
The win put the Super Eagles atop of Group C, and ahead of the duo of Cape Verde and Central Africa Republic who played out to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday.
Iheanacho put Nigeria ahead on 22 minutes slotting home following an assist from Iwobi during the match hosted in Lagos State at the Teslim Balogun Stadium. The Leicester forward scored his second goal of the game on the 45th minute after a superb assits from Iwobi.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles Head Coach, Gernot Rohr, made double substitutions in the 77th minute with Paul Onuachu and Samuel Kalu replacing Osimhen and Simon. Captain Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi were also introduced in place of Iheanacho and Iwobi respectively.
However, after the victory, the Super Eagles would face the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde in their next game on Tuesday. The other two teams in the group – Cape Verde and the Central African Republic – had earlier played out a stalemate in Douala, Cameroon.
