Super Eagles captain and Beşiktaş midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, has lost his father, Sunday Ndidi, who passed away on Tuesday following a road accident in Delta State.
As gathered, the retired military officer was pronounced dead by medical personnel at a hospital in Agbor, part of Delta State, following the accident along the Umunede–New Road area.
His death was confirmed by the Umunede Voice Forum on Tuesday through a brief post on its social media account, offering condolences to the family.
“We regret to announce the passing of the father of Wilfred Ndidi, midfielder for Beşiktaş and captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria. He reportedly passed away this morning following a road accident along the Umunede–New Road. The Umunede Voice Forum extends its heartfelt condolences to Wilfred Ndidi and his entire family. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement read.
Similarly, Ndidi’s club, Beşiktaş, confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the family of the retired military officer.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident,” the club said in a statement posted on its official X account.
“May Allah grant mercy to the deceased; we extend our condolences to our footballer Wilfred Ndidi, his family, and loved ones.”
Sunday Ndidi’s passing comes barely a month after his son captained Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he also scored his first international goal for the national team.
