Spanish tennis player wins second US Open trophy

By Felix Kuyinu

Tennis star, Carlos Alcaraz, has recorded a morale boosting victory to win the 2025 US Open title, his second triumph in the competition.

The Spaniard beat his counterpart, Jannick Sinner, by 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 and 6-4 to record his sixth Grand Slam title.

22-year-old Alcaraz, who has now dethroned Sinner as the sport’s world number one, was sublime in front of the 24,000 spectators, ensuring a dominating display in the opening game by breaking serve and running away with it, forcing his opponent into making errors and failing to find his range.

The title winner continued his dominance in the third round which led to more costly forehand misses by Sinner, allowing the Spaniard more cushion, moving 3-0 in front. Sinner fired a forehand long to hand Alcaraz another break in the fourth round putting the game light very much in sight.

The losing finalist fought for crown at the last game but his uninspiring performance continued after Alcaraz took his third opportunity with his 10th ace.

After the game at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday, Alcaraz said, ”In general, I think it has been my best level during the two weeks. Since the first match until the final I think I’ve been playing great tennis.

“With the serve, I’ve been really focused on it. I got broken just three times, once in the final. In general, I just played amazing tennis.

“Matches against Jannik are all about being good tactically, and physically it’s really demanding as well. I think I have to be perfect against him.”

Sinner said, “Today, there were two or three things that weren’t where I wanted them to be. I was too predictable in my play today. Sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone.
