The Spanish government has shut down schools as part of preventive measures to curb loss of lives and properties through flooding after a heavy downpour of rain.
The European country enforced the shut down also in parks, markets and cemeteries, to mention few, pending on an improvised initiative on long lasting solutions to environmental challenges.
Spain’s weather agency, AEMET, disclosed the rain which drenched for long hours is a red alert, creating fears of a repeat of last year’s deadly flood which killed more than 240 people.
AEMET warned that the weather condition, which has already caused localized ravin, poses as a complicated situation in the mediterranean region
The agency also cautioned that the enforcement put up in Valencia should act as a safefy tip off in areas including Casteloon, Tarragona as well as Andaia, which was severely hit by flood in the year 2024.
The incident has led to protests by residents in the areas who have accused the government of neglecting the community, however, the Spanish Government, on Monday, noted that work is ongoing to prevent the mishap from occurring in the area.
