Amid rising terror attacks in the country, Southern governors on Wednesday converged at the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun’s residence in Iperu-Remo to discuss how to protect the region from possible harm and address other emerging issues across the southern states.
Aside from security, the governors are expected to deliberate on economic cooperation and other pressing national and sub-national concerns.
The forum will also hold a joint session with the Southern Traditional Rulers Council at 1:00 p.m. to strengthen collaboration between political leaders and traditional institutions, with discussions expected to focus on shared regional priorities.
Earlier, Governor Abiodun, who chairs the Forum, expressed delight at hosting both governors and traditional rulers, noting that their early arrival set the stage for deeper alignment and constructive dialogue before the main session begins.
According to him, “Their visit offered us the opportunity to deepen ongoing engagements and align our shared expectations ahead of the gathering,” he said.
“We value the presence of our royal fathers and regional leaders, whose wisdom and guidance continue to enrich our processes.
“As host, we remain committed to creating an atmosphere that encourages honest dialogue and fosters stronger collaboration among all stakeholders as we work together for the peace, stability, and development of our region and country by extension.”
The meeting is expected to produce renewed commitments on regional security, economic integration, and development initiatives across the southern states.
