Soldiers, council officials behind Kaduna attacks – Miyetti Allah

By Awoniyi Ademide

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has accused some soldiers and local government officials of being complicit in the attacks on Fulani herders in Southern Kaduna.

The association alleged that rather than protecting citizens, certain state actors have aided or ignored violence against Fulani communities, allowing what it called “a recurring pattern of bloodshed and injustice” to persist.

According to the group, these attacks reflect deep-seated bias, administrative neglect, and a betrayal of public trust and justice.

“It is shameful that those entrusted with maintaining peace are instead complicit, either by omission or by direct interference,” said MACBAN Chairman, Abdulhamid Albarka.

He claimed that the silence and inaction of some military personnel and local officials have emboldened perpetrators of violence in the region.

In a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday the association alleged that four herders, Suleiman Idris, Yusuf Abdullahi, Hamidu Dauda and Ibrahim Hassan, were ambushed by armed militias at Tanda Village in Jema’a Local Government Area on September 28, 2025.

The victims, MACBAN said, were attacked while using a traditional cattle route that had been unlawfully blocked by local groups.

“Their only offence was questioning why their ancestral grazing route had been closed,” the statement read.

“In the ensuing violence, Suleiman Idris was brutally murdered in cold blood, while three others sustained serious and permanent injuries.”

MACBAN further accused the Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Council, Peter Dogara, of obstructing police investigations and shielding the suspects.

“It is regrettable that the chairman failed to visit the victims or condole with the bereaved families,” Albarka added.

“His conduct is unbecoming of a public officer and undermines the peace efforts of Governor Uba Sani’s administration.”

The association also faulted some officers of Operation Safe Haven, the joint military task force overseeing security in Southern Kaduna and Plateau State, for negligence.

It alleged that the commanders ignored prior intelligence about possible attacks on Fulani settlements despite repeated warnings from community leaders.

He further urged the Kaduna State Government and the military high command to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged involvement of the soldiers and council officials, warning that continued silence could further erode public confidence in the justice system.

“The Fulani community has endured enough injustice. We demand transparency, accountability, and fairness, not excuses and cover-ups,” he said.
