After 49 days in captivity, a bride abducted along with one of her parents in Chacho village, Sokoto State, has finally regained freedom from their abductors.
The abduction occurred in Wurno Local Government Area, where the bride, her parent, and a group of companions were seized by armed bandits while wedding preparations were underway.
As gathered, their freedom has brought relief to relatives and well-wishers, many of whom had feared the worst during weeks of silence, uncertainty, and mounting anxiety over the victimsā fate.
A security analyst, Bakatsine, disclosed the development in a post on X on Wednesday, saying the victims were freed on Tuesday evening after prolonged negotiations that culminated in the payment of ransom to their captors.
Confirming their condition, Bakatsine said the freed victims were immediately taken to Isa Hospital in Sokoto for medical evaluation and treatment.
āThey have regained their freedom after weeks in captivity and are currently receiving medical care to stabilise them,ā he said.
He, however, expressed concern over the recurring pattern of abductions in rural communities, warning that the continued reliance on ransom payments underscores deeper security failures.
āHow many families must be traumatised before lasting security returns to these areas?ā Bakatsine asked.
Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, Sokoto State police had yet to issue an official statement on the incident or clarify whether any arrests were made following the release.
