At least six job seekers have died and dozens of other applicants sustained varying degrees of injuries following a stampede that ensued while jostling for job placement into the Ghanaian military.

The job applicants were said to have breached security protocols, forcing their way into the recruitment ground, which led to the recorded casualties alongside unrest in the area.

According to the Acting Director of the Ghanaian Armed Forces Public Relations Directorate, Evelyn Asamoah, the job seekers rushed to the scene at about 2 am, as against the 6 am stipulated time, forcing their way into the gate of El-Wak Sports Stadium venue in Accra ahead of the screening.

Asamoah said that an investigation has begun into the mishap that happened on Wednesday, while medical practitioners are deployed to attend to the injured victims.

A statement by the armed forces reads in extracts, ”The Ghana Armed Forces deeply regrets to inform the general public of a tragic stampede before the commencement of the 2025/26 recruitment exercise today, Wednesday, 12th November, 2025, at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, Accra.

”The unfortunate incident led to the death of six people, and many were injured and are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital. The Armed Forces extend their deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured ones a swift recovery. Further updates will be provided.”
