Vice-President Kashim Shettima has a condolence visit to the family of the late former president, Muhammadu Buhari, in London, United Kingdom (UK), hours after arriving in the country to pick the Nigerian former leader’s body home for burial.
Shettima, who visited the family on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, was accompanied on the visit by the Chief of Staff to the country’s leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, and others.
During the condolence visit on Monday, the Vice President was said to have informed the bereaved family that the visit was on the directive of President Tinubu, who mandated that a state burial be organised for his predecessor.
At the London home of the former president, Shettima paid glowing tribute to the immediate former president for his contribution and dedication to the development of the country during and after leaving office.
He described Buhari’s exit as a great loss not just for the family, but for Nigerians, particularly the less privileged, which he often considered in his policies.
The visit came barely 24 hours after the ex-president was pronounced dead by medical experts at the London hospital where he was rushed to after his ailment worsened in Kaduna State.
He passed on two years after leaving office following the completion of his second term, marking an end to eight years of his administration which commenced in 2015 and ended 2023 in the country.
