Seven passengers die in Jigawa auto crash

No fewer than seven passengers have been confirmed dead, and several others injured, following an auto crash involving a Golf 3 wagon and a Sienna along the Chaichai-Ringim road at Yakasawa village in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The tragic incident, which has left families of the victims in mourning, occurred just days after about fifty people lost their lives in separate road accidents and a canoe capsize in Jigawa State.

The cause of the incident is yet to be determined, however, residents attributed most accidents to overloading of passengers and goods by drivers, calling on relevant authorities to take necessary action to minimise the problem.

Jigawa Police spokesman, Lawan Shiisu Adam, who confirmed the incident in a statement to newsmen on Monday, disclosed that the injured have been taken to Ringim General Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

“Seven (7) died, while fourteen (14) were admitted to the hospital following an accident that involved a Golf 3 wagon and a Sienna at Yakasawa village in Ringim Local Government Area,” he said.

The police, however, warned all road users to exercise caution while driving, avoid dangerous overtaking, refrain from overloading vehicles with passengers or goods, and strictly adhere to all traffic regulations to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of lives on the roads.
