Senate rejects Natasha’s return to National Assembly

The National Assembly has barred the lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, from resuming her legislative duties, maintaining that her suspension remains a subject of ongoing judicial proceedings.

Akpoti-Uduaghan had informed the Senate of her intention to return, arguing that the six-month suspension period had expired.

However, the leadership of the upper chamber made it clear that her case remains legally unresolved, and no administrative action can be taken to facilitate her return at this time.

The development stems from a formal communication issued by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Yahaya Danzaria, in response to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s notice of her intention to resume plenary on September 4, 2025.

Danzaria explained that the lawmaker’s suspension, which took effect on March 6, remains a matter under judicial consideration and has not yet been concluded.

“The matter, therefore, remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in light of the court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption,” the Clerk wrote.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended on March 6, 2025, over alleged breaches of Senate standing orders—a decision later upheld by the Federal High Court in Abuja before being challenged at the appellate court.
