Senate dismisses Kalu’s claim on Akpabio’s impeachment

The Senate has dismissed claims by the lawmaker representing Abia North senatorial district, Orji Kalu, that there were attempts to remove Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, over their disagreement with his leadership style in the National Assembly.

They said that the claim was false, saying there were no discussions or plans among lawmakers on Akpabio’s removal as Senate president.

The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, who spoke on behalf of the lawmakers on Wednesday inside the national assembly, described Kalu’s allegations as misleading and designed to create unnecessary tension among the lawmakers.

He emphasized that the Senate remains united and focused on pressing national matters rather than being distracted by false claims.

“There was no attempt by any of our colleagues, nor any discussion about removing the Senate President from office.

“We are fully united and have a zero-tolerance approach to distractions because there are urgent issues of public importance that need our attention. Reports like these are clearly meant to create confusion,” he added.

The clarification came in response to remarks by Kalu, who had recently referenced previous unsuccessful attempts to impeach the Senate President.

Bamidele reaffirmed that there is no intention within the Senate to consider the removal of any of its leadership members, underlining the chamber’s cohesion and focus on governance.
