A devastating tanker explosion in the capital of Kwara State, Ilorin, has reportedly claimed lives and sparked widespread panic.
Eyewitnesses narrated that the victims were trapped in the vehicle when the explosion occurred with emergency officials yet to arrive the scene.
They added that the casualties could further increase if other drivers insist on passing beside the burning tanker on the road.
In a video which showed the tanker burning fiercely,.our correspondent could hear residents appealing for emergency officials response to the inferno.
“There are people in there. We are already appealing to other motorists and pedestrians not to go near the burning vehicle. We have seen some other tankers carry petrol and they are still passing beside the burning tanker.”
They added: “But we are not the government so we cannot stop them because they will take it up as an argument with us. When people see we Yoruba people arguing with Hausa people, they will say we are the ones that caused it. But when law enforcement agencies come, and we see them, you cannot see a soldier telling you not to pass and you will say you want to pass by force. So we are waiting for the soldiers and road safety officials.”
