The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has tasked Nigerian Police to intensify efforts towards ensuring the security of lives and property during the ongoing lockdown in the state.
Sanwo-Olu added that residents of Lagos need more from the law enforcement agency during and after the lockdown directives aimed at gaining control over coronavirus pandemic are lifted.
The governor, who gave task the policemen while commissioning a New edifice for Nigerian Police Area Command, Area J, that covers Ibeju-Lekki and Epe Local Governments, on Thursday in Ibeju-Lekki, hinted that the efforts of the law enforcement agency has reduced crime in the state but more work still lies ahead.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that the government would continue to provide infrastructures and other facilities that could aid law enforcement agencies to effectively fight crime within the state.
“This is the time that we need our police more in the fight against crime in Lagos State. And with this facility, we have boosted the morale of our law enforcement agency to do more for residents in Lagos”, the governor added.
While urging residents to support law enforcement agencies, he said: “The message we have for residents on security is that they should obey law enforcement agencies because they are doing a great job in the state. A lot of crimes have been nipped in the bud and more is expected from them.
On the facility, the governor assured: “We will continue to come out and assist the law enforcement agencies with provisions needed to ensure the protection of our citizens in Lagos”.
Responding, the commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, in an interview with newsmen, disclosed that more personnel would be deployed to the axis to ensure that crimes do not fester within the axis.
According to him, before now, we often have the challenge of communicating with the policemen here and they often have the same getting across to other stations as well. But with this facility, we can assure residents of Lagos of better security.
The commissioner added that the facility is apt considering the industries that have started springing up within the axis, saying, more security will be needed here.
