To honor their service to the nation, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pledged N100 million, vehicles, and housing support for retired military officers and other veterans, saying the gesture is a way of showing appreciation for their sacrifices to the nation.
The support includes two utility vehicles, four two-bedroom apartments, as well as food and other supplies to assist veterans in their daily lives.
The commitment was made on Monday during the State Executive Council meeting in Lagos, when the Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Legion visited to kick off activities marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the gesture is part of the state’s commitment to ensuring that those who served the nation are remembered and supported in real, tangible ways, particularly during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day activities.
According to him, “I want our veterans to know that Lagos State truly values their service. To show our appreciation, I have committed ₦100 million and two utility vehicles to help the Legion with its operations. We are also providing four 2-bedroom apartments, along with food and other supplies to support their members.
“Our sovereignty as a nation exists because of these brave men and women. The Emblem Appeal is a responsibility we owe to those who laid down their lives for Nigeria and to those who returned with life-changing injuries. We must remember them in real and tangible ways.
“This is our way of saying thank you for the sacrifices that allow all of us to live in a free and united country.
